Weekend Thunder is holding The Ultimate NASCAR Party at the Gloucester (Mass.) Cinema on Sunday, August 13. The event features Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby nad the Nextel Cup race from Watkins Glen on the big screen, along with race car displays, prizes, and giveaways.

/Racecar and Racing News Articles/ - BOSTON, MA, August 11, 2006 — On Sunday, August 13, Weekend Thunder and the world of racing will invade the Gloucester Cinema on Route 133 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, for what is sure to be the Ultimate NASCAR Party.

The event opens to the public at 10:00 a.m. to kick off a day long celebration of race cars, movies, prizes, and giveaways. Weekend Thunder, Boston's only NASCAR pre-race radio show on the city's only NASCAR station—WWZN 1510 AM The Zone—will be on hand for a live broadcast starting at 10:30, and a special screening of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby starring superstar comedian Will Ferrell commences at 11:15. In the afternoon fans can watch the NASCAR Nextel Cup event live from Watkins Glen on the theater's big screen, and the Weekend Thunder post-race show wraps up the day's programming at 5 p.m.

" We're really looking forward to the event and we're ready for a good sized crowd," Gloucester Cinema owner John Williams said. "Sometimes you perceive NASCAR as being a southern sport, but there is a lot of interest in this area."

The day isn't just about watching of course; as the party is shaping up to be a truly interactive fan experience. One of several race cars on hand will be the No. 26 Lenox Industrial Tools Ford Fusion driven by Nextel Cup competitor Jamie McMurray, and fans may enter to win a helmet autographed by McMurray himself. The car of Lee USA Late Model driver Jim Linardy will also appear at the Gloucester Cinema, and the WeekendThunder.com Super MiniCup Series will be in attendance as well, complete with a Ricky Bobby look alike car.

"Weekend Thunder has been a big supporter of our series and we're more than happy to come up and help make the show better," MiniCup competitor Matt Lachance said. "We're excited about getting up there and seeing some of the Thunder fans."

Door prizes and giveaways from t-shirts to posters to die cast cars and more will be available, and to cap it off the Mayor of Gloucester, John Bell, will serve as the day's grand marshal. Of course, the Weekend Thunder Thundermobile will make an appearance and like any Weekend Thunder show, the day is sure to be full of surprises.
